Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino said his side had achieved a near miracle when he reflected on how his superheroes fought back to beat Ajax on Wednesday night and reach the final of the Champions League.

"I said it before, they are heroes. I told you in the last 6 months and I repeat these sentences. I think they are superheroes now," Pochettino told reporters at a post-match press conference.

Describing it as one of the most important nights in his life, Pochettino was filmed in tears on the pitch at the John Cruyff Arena.

"To bring the club to the final of Champions League, I think it is very close to a miracle." No one believed in us," he added.

Trailing 1-0 from the first leg, Spurs made the worst possible start when Ajax captain Matthijs de Ligt scored from a corner. Hakim Ziyech doubled Ajax's lead on the night leaving Spurs 3-0 behind on aggregate.

However, two second half goals within five minutes from Lucas Moura put the visitors back in contention.

In a frantic finish, both sides hit the woodwork, but it was Moura's 96th-minute strike which sent Spurs through to their first Champions League final on away goals.

They now face Liverpool in Madrid on June 1 in what will be the second all-English final.
