Thousands of demonstrators held a rally in support of the US and its President Donald Trump in Hong Kong on Sunday, just a few days after US lawmakers signed two bills supporting the Hong Kong opposition movement and their human rights.

Footage shows Hong Kong people waving US flags and celebrating with portraits of Donald Trump what they call a moral victory of the protest movement.

On Wednesday, US President Donald Trump signed into law two bills, sanctioning any official responsible for arbitrary arrests, tortures or any other violation of the island citizens' human rights.

The law also requires the US administration to annually assess if Hong Kong's special status and freedoms are respected by Beijing. If China fails to do so, Washington could end the city's special trade status hitting its economy.
