The trophy for the UEFA Champions League was greeted by large crowds as it arrived in Madrid on Saturday ahead of the tournament's final match.

The trophy was escorted by police officers and paraded around the Cibeles fountain area in the centre of the capital before making its entrance to a ceremony where it was carried by famous former football players Roberto Carlos and Paolo Futre.

The Mayor of Madrid, Manuela Carmena, said she was very excited about the final happening in the city, because "you know that it is the most important football match in the world, and we are going to enjoy it here."

The Champions League final will take place on June 1 at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium between English teams Liverpool and Tottenham.
