Ecuadorian entrepreneur Esteban Del Hierro is attempting to break the world record for the world’s largest collection of training shoes, with almost 6,000 pairs collected over 45 years since beginning his journey at just 11 years old.
Footage captured on Friday shows Del Hierro kicking back and showing off his favourite exhibits within his vast collection, including vintage Adidas TRX shoes, a pair of Jeremy Scott x Wings 3.0 ‘Solid Gold’, as well as Starsky & Hutch-inspired trainers.
Del Hierro says his world record attempt is about attaching ‘positive meaning' to his collection.
"I want to create a foundation to leave this as a legacy for the city and with the objective of helping the young athletes of Ecuador," he noted.
Del Hierro also said that he wants to sponsor young artists and athletes, to help them reach their potential on the international stage.
"These 45 years of passion, these 45 years of life, as a collector, I want to bequeath them for social work, that is so needed for the most helpless people in the country," Del Hierro concluded.
According to the Guinness World Records website, the current record holder is Jordy Geller from the US, whose collection held 2,388 pairs as of May 2012.
