"The facts are clear at a glance," Wenbin said. "It was the US leader who went to Taiwan to support the separatist activities of Taiwan independence, not the Chinese side who went to the United States to support the independence of Alaska."
Wenbin then went on to defend China’s response to what it claims was an attack on its "sovereignty and territorial integrity."
“China's resolute response to the US's provocation is reasonable, legitimate, and justifiable, and has won wide understanding and support from the international community. If the US wants to solve the problem, there is only one way out. It is to return to the Three Sino-US joint Communiques and the One-China Principle,” the spokesperson said.
“China is determined to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and unswervingly advises the United States not to make a misjudgment,” Wenbin added.
The heightened tensions follow US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan on August 2, and a trip by a delegation of US lawmakers shortly after.
