A multi-story building was partially destroyed by overnight shelling in Kiev’s Solomyan district on Friday

Footage shows cars damaged by falling debris as firefighters worked in the area surrounding the high-rise building.

According to a statement issued by the State Emergency Situations Service of Ukraine (SESU), a 'fire broke out on the 24th floor' of the building after it was struck by 'enemy shelling'.

Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported via his Telegram channel that 'load-bearing walls' between the 24th, 25th and 26th floors were 'partially destroyed'.

“The fire in one of the apartments was promptly extinguished. Medics hospitalized one injured resident of a high-rise building, another was treated on the spot,” he wrote.

Russian officials have not claimed responsibility for the attack or responded to Ukraine's accusations at the time of publication, although has repeatedly denied targeting civilians or civilian infrastructure.

Moscow launched a military offensive in Ukraine in late February 2022 after recognising the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR), claiming that Kiev had failed to guarantee their special status under the 2014 Minsk Agreements, and urging Ukraine to declare itself officially neutral and give assurances that it would never join NATO.

Kiev denounced the Russian action as an invasion. Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky imposed martial law throughout the country, announcing a general mobilisation, while the EU and the US imposed several rounds of sanctions on Moscow.
