Footage shows locals clearing shattered glass from the windows of partially destroyed buildings while maintenance crews work to restore damaged power lines.
According to Ukraine’s Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko, the strikes left '13 dead' and 'over 60 injured'.
“The victims are provided with the necessary assistance. The police are conducting a door-to-door inspection of the damaged houses, helping the wounded. Psychologists continue to work,” Klymenko reported on Telegram
Earlier in the day, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that a 'rescue operation is underway' following the attack with people trapped 'under the rubble'.
“Unfortunately, the death toll may still rise. This would not have happened if Ukraine had received a sufficient number of air defence systems and if the world's determination to counter Russian terror had been sufficient,” Zelensky said on X, formerly Twitter.
Russia has not commented on the reported attack at the time of publication. It has previously strongly denied targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure, saying its actions are directed at military and military-linked sites.
Moscow launched a military offensive in Ukraine in late February 2022 after recognising the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR), claiming that Kiev had failed to guarantee their special status under the 2014 Minsk Agreements, and urging Ukraine to declare itself officially neutral and give assurances that it would never join NATO.
Kiev denounced the Russian action as an invasion. Zelensky imposed martial law throughout the country, announcing a general mobilisation, while the EU and the US imposed several rounds of sanctions on Moscow.
