Bigard, who says he has "supported the Yellow Vests from the start," distanced himself from prominent Yellow Vest protester Jerome Rodrigues.
After Rodrigues referred to police as a "bunch of Nazis" in a twitter exchange, Bigard said he would not be taking part in Saturday's march, leading Yellow Vests supporters to call him out as a "collabo", or collaborator.
"I think distancing myself from intolerable language like 'Nazi police'... Some people thought I was abandoning the movement. Not at all. That's why I'm here," said Bigard, as he showed up at the march.
Around noon, the comedian was evacuated by motorbike to ensure his protection.
The 'Yellow Vests' movement began as a grassroots citizen protest in November 2018 and quickly spread across mainland France, with participants demanding what they see as economic and social justice.
