Protesters set up a tent camp in front of Moldova's parliament building in Chisinau on Sunday, having spent two nights there to rally against President Maia Sandu.

Footage, captured on Monday shows hundreds of multi-coloured tents. Some of them with signs reading 'Moldova needs heat'.

Groups of demonstrators took to the street outside the parliament building, holding Moldovan flags in their hands and chanting slogans demanding the resignation of President Maia Sandu.

Law enforcement was seen escorting the demonstrators away from the protest. There is currently no official information on the number of detainees.

The main reason for the protests was residents' dissatisfaction with Maia Sandu's energy policies, which have led to a sharp increase in the price of utilities in the country.

According to event organisers, the opposition Shor party, over 40,000 people participated in a rally in central Chisinau on Sunday.

The party also claims 150 tents were set up in front of the parliament building on Monday.

The protesters expressed their intention to keep the tent city until their conditions are met.

In May, mass anti-government rallies began in the country over soaring energy and food prices, as well as falling living standards and record inflation.
