Labour party leader Jeremy Corbyn accused UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson of wanting to "sell" the National Health Service to the US and to "big pharma," during a televised debate in London on Tuesday, ahead of the upcoming general election set to take place on December 12.
"What we know of what Mr. Johnson has done is a series of secret meetings with the United States, in which they are proposing to open up our NHS markets, as they call them, to American companies," said Corbyn, as he was holding up redacted accounts of said meetings.
"A document here of US-UK negotiations. Summary of specific negotiating objectives: full market access for US products to our National Health Service. You're going to sell our National Health Service out to the United States and big pharma," he claimed.
Johnson rejected the claims and said "this is an absolute invention. It is completely untrue. There are no circumstances whatever in which this government or any Conservative government will put the NHS on the table in any trade negotiation. Our NHS will never be for sale and I’m amazed how often this comes up."
