World Youth Festival participants from France gathered at the Russian House in Paris on Tuesday to discuss the upcoming event. Footage shows the French representatives communicating via video link with counterparts from Russia's Komi Republic.

Florian Fimble, a resident of Paris, said that the festival would allow him to better understand the Russian point of view, as well as its culture and national cuisine.

"I think it will be an amazing event, I think I will meet amazing people; that's incredible. They received 300,000 applications and set 20,000 [participants in total], meaning that every participant is doing something very interesting in his country, so each participant is very interesting and some can become life friends," he added.

Student Yasmine Drider said she believed that the Youth Festival would be a great opportunity to learn more about Russia, adding that she would like to take part in sports, cultural and educational events, and meet new people.

Administrative assistant Tatiana Tikhomirova said that the festival programme was very large and diverse, making it difficult to choose which events to attend - and added that she was pleased the age limit had been extended.

"To me, it was hard to believe that I could apply to this programme, because most of the time this kind of event is booked for 18-25 years old people, in France and in Russia. So when I discovered it’s possible to join the project [up] until 35 years old it was a perfect opportunity to be young again," the woman added.

The World Festival of Youth is scheduled to run from March 1-7 2024 on the Sirius Federal Territory. It aims to develop international youth co-operation and brings together up to 20,000 young people, with 160,000 applying from across more than 180 countries.

The Sirius 'Innovation Science and Technology Centre' is the first federal territory in Russia located on the Black Sea coast near the city of Sochi.
