Elon Musk met with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday.
Footage shows Musk and Ramaphosa greeting each other ahead of discussions in Ramaphosa's hotel room as he was attending the 79th UNGA. According to the president's press service, the talks focused on investment opportunities in South Africa, Musk's country of birth.
The meeting was held behind closed doors but discussions are believed to have included the launch of the satellite broadband Internet access provider Starlink's service in South Africa.
"We had a good meeting," stated Ramaphosa after the talks with Musk confirming: 'Absolutely'.
While Starlink has been rolled out in neighbouring countries like Zambia, Eswatini, Malawi, and Zimbabwe, the company is still in discussions with South African authorities about the launch. Earlier this week, Burundi became the 17th African country to benefit from Starlink satellite Internet which hopes to bridge the digital divide in developing nations by providing broadband internet access.
Starlink have also began offering free WiFi services on airplanes including on various aircrafts of Air France and Hawaiian Airlines.
