Georgia Democratic Senate candidate Jon Ossoff cast his ballot at Atlanta's Metropolitan Library on Tuesday, ahead of Senate runoff elections next month that will decide which party holds a majority of the US Senate.

Ossoff delivered remarks to the press outside the polling station before casting his ballot.

"As you all know these elections will determine control of the US Senate," he said. "Young people in Georgia: you all will determine whether this legislation can pass," referencing reforms to address police violence and racism.

"This is a rare moment in history, you all. For young people to have that kind of power. So we are here, all of us are here to urge young people out to the polls, to urge you to get everybody you know out to the polls, for health and jobs and justice for the people," Ossoff added.

If both Democratic candidates, Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock, win the run off elections on January 5, Democrats will have 50 seats in the Senate, with Vice President-elect Kamala Harris serving as a tie breaker, giving the party a razor thin majority.
