Olivares died on Sunday, three days after being seriously wounded alongside provincial official Miguel Marcelo Yadon in a gun attack outside Congress. The two men were shot at least six times from a car, by what local media described as "a criminal gang."
President Mauricio Macri, who declared a 48-hour period of national mourning on Sunday, paid tribute to Olivares's coffin at the Salon de Pasos Perdidos, joined by politicians from all political parties.
"With great sadness, we have lost a colleague, a worker, a good person, a great defender of his province," said deputy Eduardo Amadeo, adding "we will see what justice says, we do not know why they killed him, if it was the mafia, we don't know, we will be waiting to hear what justice says."
At least six people were reportedly arrested in connection with the attack, which authorities believe was aimed primarily at Yadon.
