Former Donald Trump advisor Steve Bannon was released from custody without bail in Washington DC, Monday, after surrendering his passport to authorities, as he faces criminal charges related to the Capitol riot of January 6.

"I'm telling you right now, this is going to be the misdemeanour from hell for Merrick Garland, Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden," Bannon told reporters after leaving the court.

Steve Bannon was charged with defying a congressional committee subpoena to investigate the January 6 attack in which rioters stormed the Capitol in Washington, resulting in the deaths of a police officer and four Trump supporters.
