Ajax manager Erik Ten Hag described his side's last-minute loss to Tottenham Hotspur as "cruel" in a post-match interview from the Johan Cruyff Arena on Wednesday.

"This is the cruel side of football and we have to go on," said Ten Hag, whose young side were on the verge of making it to the Champions League final. Instead a 96th-minute strike from Lucas Moura shattered their dreams.

Trailing 1-0 from the first leg, Spurs made the worst possible start when Ajax captain Matthijs de Ligt scored from a corner. Hakim Ziyech doubled Ajax's lead on the night leaving Spurs 3-0 behind on aggregate.

However, two second half goals within five minutes from Lucas Moura put the visitors back in contention.

In a frantic finish, both sides hit the woodwork, but it was Moura's hattrick which sent Spurs through to their first Champions League final on away goals.

They now face Liverpool in Madrid on June 1 in what will be the second all-English final.
