Hundreds of people joined the Immortal Regiment march in Paris on Wednesday to honour the Soviet soldiers who lost their lives during World War II.

As well as carrying the traditional portraits of relatives and friends who fought in the conflict, a banner could be seen reading 'Stop this war organised by the USA, by proxy in Ukraine against Russia'.

Footage also shows participants waving flags from the USSR, Russia, Belarus and other countries. Some were also seen laying flowers at a monument in the Pere-Lachaise cemetery dedicated to Russian soldiers who fought to liberate France.

More than 35,000 Russians fought alongside the French against Nazi Germany in WWII. Monuments to Soviet soldiers in Paris were erected to honour their wartime sacrifice.

The Immortal Regiment marches were also seen in Madrid and Frankfurt on Sunday, drawing hundreds of participants. They come ahead of Victory Day on May 9, marking the Soviet and allies' victory over Nazi Germany in 1945.
