During the rally Civil rights attorney Ben Crump, Floyd's sister Bridgett Floyd and Civil rights activist Al Sharpton called on lawmakers to pass the 'George Floyd Justice in Policing Act' a police reform bill, which would prevent officers from using chokeholds and create a database to track and report police misconduct.
"We must use this opportunity to get the 'George Floyd Justice in Policing Act' past, so we can prevent some of these unnecessary, preventable, unjustifiable, illegal and unconstitutional killers of our people," said Crump.
Sharpton praised the action of activists and protesters throughout the US stating, "They thought that they could get away with it and you went to the streets blacks and whites, young and old, in the middle of a pandemic."
The event was held outside the courthouse where former police officer Derek Chauvin was convicted of killing Floyd. Crowds then gathered to march through the streets of Minneapolis.
