Around 200 activists held a remembrance rally in Berlin on Tuesday to commemorate the first anniversary of George Floyd's killing.

The rally, also dedicated to marking the 2021 Africa Day, took place on the field of the former Tempelhof airport in the centre of the German capital with speeches against racism and discrimination and with live music performances.

Participants of the event, among them 'Black Lives Matter' movement members, representatives of the Berlin African community as well as various left-wing organisations, shouted out the names of the victims of racist attacks such as George Floyd, Christy Schwundeck and Oury Jalloh.

Floyd passed away on May 25, 2020, after former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin kneeled on his neck during an arrest, despite Floyd saying he couldn't breathe. Chauvin was consequently convicted of murder and manslaughter in April 2021.
