The Minnesota National Guard could be seen on the streets of Minneapolis on Wednesday, as tensions run high following the fatal shooting of Daunte Wright.
Many stores and local businesses were closed, with wooden planks covering the windows, to protect them from possible break-ins and looting.
"I haven't slept in a week. You know, I've been in here with my guns inside, in case something happens. I was down for five months from the last break-in. Five months. And they had to tear the whole store and I had almost a million- dollar redo. And now - here we go again," said Gary, owner of the local liquor store.
Protests started after Wright, a 20-year-old Black man, was shot during a traffic stop on Sunday in Brooklyn Center, right outside Minneapolis. According to police, the officer intended to use a taser but mistakenly pulled her gun.
In Minneapolis, tensions were already high amid the trial of Derek Chauvin, the former police officer charged with killing George Floyd.
