Dozens of Black Lives Matter protesters gathered in Minnesota on Friday to demand justice for George Floyd as the request by the defence team to have the trial of Derek Chauvin postponed and held at an alternative location was rejected.

Protesters with flags and BLM signs could be seen, before they participated in a march.

One protest participant, Trahern Crews, said the BLM movement wanted "at least two or three black people, whose ancestors descend from slavery, who have a historical understanding of the police department in America, to definitely be seated on that jury."

Jury members were selected on March 19 and comprise four who are Black, six who are white, and two who are multiracial.

Another protester questioned why Floyd "deserved to die."

"Even if he was on drugs, that does not justify a reason to kill him," Isis Atala told the crowd.

Chauvin has been charged with second-degree murder and manslaughter for his actions leading to George Floyd's death. A third-degree murder charge was reinstated.

The opening arguments are scheduled to start on March 29.

On May 25, 2020 Chauvin was filmed kneeling on Floyd's neck for several minutes during an arrest. George Floyd's death rekindled the Black Lives Matter movement, sparking worldwide protests denouncing a pattern of unarmed Black men, women, and children being killed by police.
