Protests flared up in Philadelphia on Tuesday, as protesters took to the streets following the fatal shooting of a Black man by police the day before.

Hundreds of protesters were seen marching through the streets of West Philadelphia, reaching the 18th District police precinct at 55th and Pine Streets. There, dozens of officers in riot gear and shields stood behind a barricade as protesters surrounded them.

"The cops shot him up, man. That sh*t ain't right. They could have tased him," one protester said. "We tired of this sh*t. So this what you get, simple as that."

Twenty-seven-year-old Wallace Jr. was shot as officers responded to a report of a person with a weapon in the Cobbs Creek neighbourhood.

Wallace was allegedly armed with a knife. According to the officers, he was shot several times when he advanced towards them.

The man's father said that his son was on medication as he struggled with mental health issues.
