Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi signed several bilateral agreements at the beginning of their joint press conference in Vladivostok on Wednesday.

Putin lauded relations between Moscow and New Delhi, stating that “India is one of our key partners. The relations between our countries are strategic and they are progressively developing on a friendly, mutually beneficial basis.”

Discussing energy cooperation, the Russian leader noted that Moscow “is a reliable supplier of energy resources to the Indian market. Last year, about 2.3 million tons of oil, nearly 550 thousand tons of oil products, 4.5 million tons of coal were shipped to India.”

On his part, Modi said that cooperation between India and Russia is necessary in order to achieve “a multipolar world.”

The two leaders met on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum, which runs until September 6.
