Thousands of worshippers packed out the multi-storey Baitul Mukarram mosque in the centre of the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka for the final Friday prayers of Ramadan.

Footage shows believers listening to the khatib's speech before offering prayers for peace and unity across the Muslim world, particularly for the people of Gaza.

"I prayed to Allah after performing the Jummatul Bida prayer that He would free Palestine. May the women and children of Gaza live a normal life like we do. May Allah guide the Israelites, and if guidance is not in their destiny, then may He punish them”, said student Abdur Rahim.

The Muslim holy month of Ramadan is the ninth month in the Islamic calendar and is observed yearly by praying during the night time and abstaining from eating and drinking during the period between sunrise and sunset.

Bangladesh will celebrate this year’s Ramadan from March 12 until April 9.
