LeBron James spoke out on a grand jury's refusal to charge the officers involved in Breonna Taylor's death. The NBA star made his remarks in a press conference in Orlando, on Thursday, following his Los Angeles Lakers 114-108 win on Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals against the Denver Nuggets.

James said that the players were devastated but did not discuss walking out of Game 4 after the ruling. "We just wanted to be there for our brother Do [Los Angeles Lakers player Rajon Rondo]. Because as much as it's devastating to us, you can only imagine it happening in your backyard. And Do being from Louisville, we knew how tough it had to be on him and his family and the locals there. So, no we didn't discuss that [not playing Game Four] not one bit, but we can't say that we were surprised at the verdict. None of us were surprised. That's what's even more devastating. That none of us were surprised what the outcome was," LeBron James said.

"Breonna Taylor's case showed it once again that the walls of a neighbour are more important than her life," James said, before sharing a message of support for all black women around the world, saying: "You're not alone."

On Wednesday, a Kentucky grand jury decided not to bring homicide charges against police officers involved in the killing of Breonna Taylor. The ruling sparked protests all over the US.

26-year-old Taylor was killed while sleeping in her bed in on March 13, after police officers broke into her apartment under a 'no-knock warrant' suspecting her to be part of a drug ring. The woman was eventually shot eight times as the officers exchanged gunshots with her boyfriend.
