Protesters gathered outside the Brooklyn Center police department to protest the police killing of Daunte Wright on Thursday.

Protesters held banners against police brutality and chanted slogans and gave speeches outside the building protected by fences and National Guard officers.

"The more you held this space, the more you show these people you will not stand from modern-day lynching, you will not stand for public execution. Minnesota may not have the death penalty but it sure as shit as public execution of Black men," said one protester.

Wright was fatally shot by officer Kim Potter after being pulled over by law enforcement on Sunday.

Potter, a 26-year veteran of the Brooklyn Center Police Department subsequently announced her resignation on Tuesday, as did police chief Tim Gannon.

Potter has since been charged with second-degree manslaughter, though protesters continue to demand murder charges be brought against her.

City officials have imposed a curfew after several nights of protests.
