China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) Spokesperson Zhao Lijian expressed Beijing's condolences over the death of former Soviet president Mikhail Gorbachev, speaking at a press conference in Beijing on Wednesday.
"Mikhail Gorbachev has made positive contributions to the normalisation of Sino-Soviet relations. We express our condolences for his passing and our condolences to his family," Lijian said.
Regarding the Taiwan crisis, the spokesperson announced that it makes no sense for Taiwan "to play up nervousness" on the Chinese drones that were targeted close to Kinmen Islands.
Taiwan has complained about the drones' repeated harassment of its offshore and announced that its army fired warning shots on Tuesday.
