Demonstrators who camped out in front of the Moldovan parliament in central Chisinau on Monday explained their reasons for taking part in the protest.

"She [President of Moldova Maia Sandu] promised people a lot, and she did nothing. Instead of dealing with the people's issues, she's travelling to who knows where. Prices have skyrocketed. Water [prices] have already risen too," one of the protesters shared.

Many elderly people were also seen outside the parliament building. One of them, a woman who was born in 1949, said that she had spent her whole life saving money 'on herself, on food, on children,  grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.'

"I've been sitting here for 24 hours for nothing. I hope something will happen to enlighten all people with good will. May God open all their eyes to see us, to see our pain. I want everyone to understand that this is our disease. Let them close the air to us. That will be her saving against us," she added.

According to media reports, around a hundred tents have been set up in the park in front of the parliament building and the presidential administration, demanding the resignation of President Maia Sandu and the dissolution of parliament and the government. The protesters expressed their intention to not shut down the camp until their conditions are met.

There has been no official information on detentions. A day earlier, thousands of people had turned out for a rally in central Chisinau.

In May, mass anti-government rallies began in the country over soaring energy and food prices, as well as falling living standards and record inflation.
