Hundreds of environmental activists rallied and marched for climate action in the Cornish town of St Ives on Friday as leaders met nearby at the 47th Group of Seven (G7) summit.

Protesters were seen holding banners with messages such as “sound the alarm” and “your government is failing us.”

Leadership of the Group of Seven (G7) consists of Germany, Italy, France, the UK, Japan, the US and Canada, along with EU representatives and leaders from guest countries including Australia, India, South Africa, and South Korea are attending the first day of the annual summit to focus on global issues and policies on Friday.

Further protests are expected this weekend as activists continue to campaign for leaders to take more action on climate change.

The US held the G7 Presidency in 2020 but did not convene a Leaders' Summit due to the global pandemic. For this edition, the UK aims to unite the members to discuss the post-pandemic recovery and environmental policies for the future.
