George Floyd's family's attorney Ben Crump, Floyd's brother Terrence and activist Al Sharpton all on Monday gave statements in Minneapolis prior to the beginning of police officer Derek Chauvin's murder trial.

Civil rights attorney Crump said the today marks a "landmark trial that will be a referendum on how far America has come in its quest for equality and justice for all."

"Everybody saw this video, what we want to know is will we see justice? The whole world is watching," he added.

Floyd's brother Terrence spoke about responses to police violence, "they can't sweep this under the rug, George Floyd, Philando Castille, they were all killed by officers who were sworn to protect us." He went on to speak about the officers involved in Floyd's death, "one thing I can tell you, we will get justice, we will not allow Derek Chauvin, Thao and his crew to be the judge, the prosecutor and the executioner."

The crowd took the knee for eight minutes and 46 seconds, the amount of time Chauvin spent knelt on Floyd's neck, Al Sharpton explained, "we taking a knee for eight minutes and 46 seconds and we want you to think of during that time why Chauvin didn't in that time get his knee up."
