Dutch footballer Vivianne Miedema, star striker of the Netherlands women's national team and forward for Arsenal, wants to be an inspiration to younger girls through her comic books, she said ahead of training with the Dutch squad in Reims on Tuesday.

By sharing her stories and tips on how to become a better player in her own series of Dutch children’s books, which she stars in and co-authors, Miedema wants to motivate young girls who also have dreams of a future in football.

“They're all playing football so they might have the same sort of desire and they can just learn from it, or they can look up to it or some, like one of the books is more of a tip so what to do, for you to get better, like those kind of things,” she said.

While growing up, Miedema says she didn’t have these opportunities from which to get inspired and compared the different motivational features for boys in the sport. “Obviously football was really big, so like men's football had a lot of books coming out but I think not really for that younger generation with the idea that my books have,” she added.

The young 22 year-old already won the Professional Football Association Player of the Year Award in England in 2018, and after the Netherlands's last game in the FIFA Women's World Cup 2019, she became the all-time top scorer for her team.
