On Friday, Damascus' residents reacted to the US missile strike on the Al- Shayrat airbase, near Homs carried out earlier in the day, most expressed outrage at the attack with some advocating a response against the US.

According to one resident, US President Donald Trump was ready to attack any time in order "to serve the interest of Zionism world in the Arab countries". Another resident supposed that the US used the alleged chemical attack carried out by the Syrian government as "an argument us using to enter the country like with what they did in Iraq". "We condemn this criminal act which been carried by a country which claims to protect human rights and in reality, it's wrong to all people", said one respondent.

In the opinion of one interviewee, "the purpose of the [US] strike is to weaken the Syrian resistance and makes our chances less in winning the war." Before adding "Even though if the whole world is against us we will keep going and we will win with our president and the residence," he concluded.

The airbase was the target of a US airstrike ordered by Trump's administration. A total of 59 tomahawk missiles were fired at the base in the Homs governorate, at 4:40 local time (00:40 GMT) on Friday. At least nine people have been killed, according to Syrian authorities.

Trump confirmed that the strikes were ordered in response to Tuesday's alleged chemical attack in Khan Sheikhoun at a press conference, during which he claimed Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was responsible.
