Forensic Pathologist Lindsey Carol Thomas ruled out drug overdose as George Floyd's cause of death, saying it was the result of police actions, as she testified as an expert witness in the trial of Derek Chauvin, in Minneapolis, on Friday.

"The activities of the law enforcement officers resulted in Mr Floyd's death," she said, adding, "specifically those activities were the subdual of the restraint and the neck compression."

During the testimony she agreed with Hennepin County Medical Examiner Dr Andrew Baker's determination of cause of death, which as written on the death certificate is "cardiopulmonary arrest complicating law enforcement's subdual, restraint and neck compression," though Baker also listed illicit drug use among "other significant conditions."

Carol however replied "no" when asked if she believed methamphetamine use was significant in the cause of death, adding, "the autopsy itself didn't tell me the cause and manner of death and it really required getting all of this other additional information, specifically the video evidence of the terminal events to conclude the cause of death and the manner of death."
