Washington DC is set to go back to normality on Thursday following a security lockdown imposed ahead and during the inauguration of US President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.

A handful of people were seen walking across Black Lives Matter Plaza in DC close to the White House on Thursday morning.

More than 25,000 National Guard troops and police were deployed before the event, while bridges and streets around the US Capitol were blocked with security barriers and checkpoints.

The inauguration took place with multiple restrictions due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and following the violent storming of the US Capitol by supporters of former US president Donald Trump.
