Police officers dispersed the camp of anti-government protesters and removed the tents from the roadway in the centre of Chisinau.

Footage, taken on Monday, shows police dismantling tents set up on the city's central avenue, as well as protesters chanting 'Down with Maia Sandu!' and 'We are the people!'

According to media reports, several dozen of police officers managed to unblock traffic on the central avenue of the Moldovan capital.

Later, the press service of the opposition Sor party reported they were going to appeal in court against the 'illegal actions of the police' towards the protesters.

"The brutal and unjustified police intervention in the Town of Changes [the tent camp] this morning, the forcible removal of tents set up by protesters the day before, is an oppressive and cruel gesture towards people," the message reads.

There is no official information on detentions during the rally at the time of publication.

Thousands of people attended the first demonstration earlier on September 18, organised by the opposition Sor party. Activists pitched dozens of tents outside the government building, calling them a 'City of Change', and said they’d only leave when their conditions were met.

In May, mass anti-government rallies began in the country over soaring energy and food prices, as well as falling living standards and record inflation.
