French President Emmanuel Macron vowed to rebuild Notre Dame Cathedral during a televised address in Paris on Tuesday, after a devastating fire partially destroyed the iconic religious and historical monument on Monday.
"We will rebuild Notre Dame Cathedral even more beautiful. And I want this be achieved from now within five years,"said Macron.
The cause of Monday's conflagration is not yet known, although there are indications that it may be linked to restoration work that was underway at the 12th century cathedral.
An international fundraising campaign is underway to gather money for the repairs, with pledged donations from some of France's wealthiest families and largest companies already totalling over €750 ($849) million.
