Senior Superintendent of New Territories North Regional Crime Headquarters Chan Tin-chu dismissed accusations that police cooperated with triad gangs in last year's Yuen Long station attack, during a press conference in Hong Kong on Wednesday.

Chan said, "some people misinterpreted the riot police, that they were friends with the white T-shirt guys. In fact, riot police at that time used the same kind of action to disperse the black T-shirt guys, we can also see this online."

"Two groups of people with different political views gathered at Yuen Long West rail station," he added.

The superintendent stressed that 13 had been arrested, suspected of being involved in the attack.

Among those arrested is member of Hong Kong's Legislative Council, Lam Cheuk-ting who has been detained along with another lawmaker, Ted Hui Chi-fung.

The Yuen Long metro attack was one of the key events of last year's anti-government protests in Hong Kong.
