Hundreds of protesters gathered at Edinburgh place to demand an end to what they described as “police brutality” and “a humanitarian crisis” in Hong Kong on Thursday.

Crowds chanted that the "Hong Kong people are facing humanitarian crisis, facing a government that abuses public power, undermining the rule of law and facing injustice in law enforcement and prosecution. As Hong Kong people, we clearly understand that what the totalitarian government fears most is that we are connecting to each other and fight."

Footage shows banners saying "Stop the police brutality or humanitarian disaster," and "Social Welfare - Strike."

The demo was one of several on Thursday as people celebrated the 35th anniversary of the signing of the Sino-British Joint Declaration. The treaty, which was signed on December 19th, 1984, promised 50 years of unchanged high-degree autonomy and freedom for the former British colony, which was handed back to China in 1997.

Britain is currently urging China to honour the treaty and open a discussion with the Hong Kong protesters.
