Footage filmed on Sunday features visitors marvelling at the intricate sculptures, including a majestic dragon, a mesmerising mermaid, and various sea and forest creatures frozen into the rocks.
Most of the exhibits were crafted from the unique shapes already left in the ice along the shoreline.
"Every year the festival surprises with new designs, new sculptures, and new interpretations of [frozen] water splashes ," said sculptor Andrei Kuznetsov. "The artist sees in these or those splashes their own picture and then translates it into reality for everyone to see."
Participant Ivan Loktyukhin emphasised the thrill of working with ice, despite its challenges.
"[It] may be uncomfortable, but it provides the master with limitless opportunities for bringing ideas to life," Loktyukhin said. He described ice as a 'magical material' with unique properties, allowing artists to cut, glue, and weld it together to create stunning sculptures that captivate viewers.
The Olkhon Ice Fest 2024 takes place from February 15 to March 15, covering a one-kilometre stretch along the coastline of Olkhon Island. Ten sculptors from across Russia, as well as international artists, showcase their talents at the event, dazzling audiences with their enchanting creations.
