Rescue operations continued across Russia on Monday, as the country's Emergencies Ministry (EMERCOM) reported that more than 10,000 residential houses remained flooded throughout 39 regions.
Footage taken in Orenburg, Samara and Altai features rescuers evacuating people from flooded areas, digging trenches and helping livestock stuck in mud.
According to the ministry, 3,900 residential houses and 8,700 plots were affected in the Orenburg region specifically, with more than 6,100 people evacuated, and 1,213 placed in temporary accommodation centres.
"In the Samara region, 50 residential houses and 901 plots, as well as a section of motorway remain flooded. 62 people, including 16 children, were placed in two temporary accommodation centres," the statement read.
The agency added that 142 residential houses and 453 plots were flooded in the Altai region, while 20 people were taken to two temporary accommodation centres.
The local Orsk administration reported the breach of the protective dam in the Old Town area late on Friday, April 5, triggering widespread flooding. On Saturday, Orsk Mayor Vasily Kozupitsa said another section of the dam near Borisoglebsky Street in Nickel had been breached, resulting in 'water rushing into the city', and urged residents to leave their homes as soon as possible.
EMERCOM Head Alexander Kurenkov reportedly arrived in the Orenburg region, on the instructions of Russian President Vladimir Putin, to personally monitor the situation, while more than 700 specialists from different regions, 160 units of equipment and 70 boats were working in the area.
The Russian Investigative Committee said it had launched a criminal probe related to both 'violation of safety rules during construction work' and 'negligence'.
