٠٠:٠٢:١١President of Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik said that the region was trying to 'discourage any possibility of joining sanctions against Russia' despite Western pressure, while speaking with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the Games of the Future international tournament in Kazan on Wednesday.
"In these circumstances, we are trying to discourage any possibility of joining sanctions against Russia. They (the West) are trying hard enough, every day they are literally trying to talk us into it. And of course, without a doubt, we refuse to move towards NATO membership. Regardless of the fact that we are, again, under a lot of pressure," he stated.
For his part, Putin thanked Dodik for supporting relations with Russia.
"We have long-standing relations with the Republika Srpska, and they are absolutely constructive. We are very happy about what has been done. I very much expect that even more will be done in our relations," Putin said.
Republika Srpska is an entity within Bosnia and Herzegovina, formed in 1992 at the start of the Bosnian War.
The Games of the Future is an international multi-sport tournament held in Kazan from February 21 to March 3, with around 2,000 people expected to take part.
Organised by the Russian Ministry of Sport, the Government of the Republic of Tatarstan, Kazan's municipal administration and the Directorate of Sports and Social Projects, it marks the first ever phygital sporting competition, with competitors battling it out in real-life sporting disciplines and via e-sports.
