The Russian Emergencies Ministry is actively involved in evacuating residents of Orsk, Southern Urals, from flooded areas to temporary accommodation centres.

Footage published on Wednesday shows flood victims preparing food outside a church and engaging in conversations while drinking tea with medical professionals at an Orthodox gymnasium.

One local expressed gratitude for the assistance received, highlighting the quality of service, food, and provision of warm clothing. The resident also commended the organisation of the relief efforts and the communication with the administration and the local priest.

"We came here by car with my husband. The service is very good, the food is good: breakfast, lunch, dinner, everything's hot, bread, water, everything's brought. Warm clothes are brought. Everyone is informed. The priest, you see, these five women, the priest, yes, his wife, his son with his wife and men who cook for us, make fires - we are very grateful to them. Everything is well organised. [If] there are any reports, we are informed. The administration calls the priest, he invites us and informs us," a resident added.

Pavel Orlov, the chief doctor of the Orsk City Hospital, noted the well-coordinated efforts of the medical workers at the temporary accommodation centre.

"A large number of medical staff, including paediatricians, therapists and infectious disease specialists have arrived to check everyone, to see if there are any patients with illnesses, hypertension, headaches or intestinal infections. To check the conditions in which food is stored, how children are treated, whether disinfection is carried out, this is a large team of doctors who have come to help, today they are carrying out a full range of all sanitary and epidemiological tasks here," he said.

The local Orsk administration reported the breach of the protective dam in the Old Town area late on Friday, April 5, triggering widespread flooding, with over 4,000 homes and over 10,000 people affected.

On April 9, Orsk Mayor Vasily Kozupitsa reported that the level of the Ural River 'dropped by 39 centimetres during the day.' The flooded area covered 260 streets and 6,929 residential houses.

According to the Russian Emergencies Ministry (EMERCOM), more than 6,000 people were evacuated, with more than 1,200 placed in temporary accommodation centres.

The agency added that rescuers were using boats and all-terrain vehicles to move through the city streets and evacuate residents. More than 4,000 specialists, over 800 units of equipment and 150 waterborne vehicles were working in the area.

Floods in the Orenburg region have been declared a federal emergency. The Russian Investigative Committee said it had launched a criminal probe related to both 'violation of safety rules during construction work' and 'negligence'.
