Venues across Russia's Kazan were seen preparing for the hotly-anticipated Games of the Future, a hybrid 'phygital' sporting crossover tournament combining both physical and digital disciplines.

Footage taken on Friday, February 16, shows workers preparing venues for phygital basketball, football and laser tag competitions.

"It's almost ready, you can probably see that within days the venues are being transformed, that is, there is branding, temporary structures, lights, sound, screens. <...> It is a unique venue!" said Mikhail Leonov, deputy director general of the Directorate of Sports and Social Projects.

According to Leonov, entrance will be free of charge, so that 'anyone can get to know what the Future Games are all about' by visiting exhibits, arenas and partnership stands.

The international multi-sport tournament will be held in Kazan from February 21 to March 3, with around two thousand people expected to take part.

The Games of the Future is organised by the Russian Ministry of Sport, the Government of the Republic of Tatarstan, Kazan's municipal administration and the Directorate of Sports and Social Projects. It marks the first ever phygital sporting competition, with competitors battling it out in real-life sporting disciplines and via e-sports.
