Supporters and representatives of the opposition Shor party rallied outside the Constitutional Court in Chisinau.

It came following the government's request to verify the constitutionality of the organisation and a potential ban, amid allegations of illegal financing and links to Russia.

Footage filmed on Wednesday captured residents holding Moldovan flags and placards while chanting: 'Down with this authority!', 'Shame!', 'We are the Shor party', 'PAS (the governing Party of Action and Solidarity) is the party that should be prosecuted and banned!' and 'We will not retreat!'.

One of the protesters claimed that they will 'stand up to the end'.

"We believe that the current authorities are trying to shut down opposition parties because they are scared of the opposition. They know that the only party in Moldova that really fights for the people is the Shor party. That is why they are trying with all their strength to shut it down," he added.

Another rally participant noted that the government was acting against the rights of the people. According to the Shor party's press service, hundreds took part in the rally, while there was no official information from the Moldovan Ministry of Internal Affairs on any detentions.

The next Constitutional Court hearing will take place on June 19, when the judges hear from both parties and discuss the case.

The Court began the review, on the government’s request, on May 10, with the Shor party accused of acting 'in contradiction to the principles of the rule of law and threatening the sovereignty and independence of the Republic'.

In its defence, the party has claimed the accusations are groundless, that it had not violated the constitution and that it 'acts in accordance with the Moldovan legislation'.

In November 2022, the Moldovan government attempted a similar move in connection with ongoing rallies, but Court did not accept its request.
