"We are all equal from the moment we are born thanks to mum and dad - which is how people come into the world today, there is no other way," said the Russian leader.
"We come into the world as equals, but the question is: do we grow, do we develop in equal conditions? The answer is, unfortunately, no. There are no equal conditions in the world for everyone. <…> This is the main injustice of today's world order," he continued.
Putin also added that the participants of the festival, coming from all over the world, would always be welcome in Russia.
"You have come to Russia, you have made many friends here. I want you to know that the whole of Russia is now your friend. Our doors are always open to you, to all your noble endeavours," he emphasised.
The World Youth Festival takes place on March 1-7. According to the organisers, it intends to develop international youth co-operation and bring together 20,000 young people. The regional programme will take place on March 10-17, during which the participants will visit 30 Russian cities.
