Expedition 71 astronauts give farewell remarks and take part in the International Space Station's (ISS) change of command ceremony on Sunday, September 22.
The 12 astronauts are scheduled to return to Earth the same day. Expedition 71 launched to the ISS on April 6, 2024 and was joined by Soyuz MS-25 and SpaceX Crew-8 teams.
During their mission, they conducted research on neural organoids, plant growth, and body fluid shifts to support human exploration beyond low Earth orbit and to benefit life on Earth.
Expedition 72 is scheduled to start with the departure of Soyuz MS-25 on September 24, 2024. The expedition will be led by Sunita Williams, who will be serving as ISS commander for the second time.
