Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket lifts off from Van Horn, Texas, on Monday, April 14, carrying an all-female crew on its 11th human flight, NS-31. The suborbital mission lasts around 11 minutes.
On board are singer Katy Perry, journalist Gayle King, former NASA engineer Aisha Bowe, civil rights advocate Amanda Nguyen, filmmaker Kerianne Flynn, and Lauren Sánchez, who is engaged to Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos.
This is the first all-female crew on a spaceflight since 1963. Blue Origin's New Shepard rockets operate without pilots and fly autonomously.
The spacecraft is set to cross the Kármán line, the edge of space, allowing the crew a few minutes of weightlessness and panoramic views of Earth.
Blue Origin, owned by Bezos, designs reusable spacecraft for human spaceflight.
