The funeral mass for Pope Francis takes place at St Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican on Saturday, April 26. The coffin will then be transferred to St Maria Maggiore in Rome for burial.
At least 170 heads of state and government will attend including Argentine President Javier Milei, US President Donald Trump, President of Brazil Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, outgoing German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Pope Francis passed away on Monday at the age of 88, following a stroke and heart failure. Just days before his death, he appeared before crowds in St Peter’s Square on Easter Sunday, waving from a vehicle in what would be his final public appearance.
