The International Court of Justice (ICJ) opens public hearings in The Hague on Israel’s ban of the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) on Monday, April 28.
It follows a request from the UN General Assembly for an advisory opinion on Israel’s obligations concerning the presence and activities of the UN and other actors in the occupied Palestinian territories.
The court is set to examine whether Israel’s restrictions on UNRWA and humanitarian aid comply with international law.
The hearing is set to run until May 2, with 44 states and four international organisations scheduled to present statements. Israel does not plan to participate orally while the United States does.
