Footage shows protesters blocking the university building, sitting and standing by it with Palestinian flags and placards, making a human chain and chanting: 'Police fascists, stop terrorism', 'The people united will never be defeated', and 'Israel, stop the slaughter, stop the genocide', and riot police officers monitoring demonstrators and leading them behind the building.
Police officers could be seen clashing with students while trying to detain them, as protesters were seen huddling together, trying to defend themselves, and screaming and chanting: 'We are peaceful! What are you?' and 'Stop police brutality'.
According to local media reports, the Amsterdam city council will hold an emergency debate regarding the pro-Palestine demonstrations on Friday afternoon.
It comes after Dutch police clashed with demonstrators as they raided the pro-Palestine protest camp on the university's campus and arrested at least 169 people on Monday.
Students are demanding the university cut its ties with Israeli counterparts. The Dutch Minister of Education, Robbert Dijkgraaf, said on X (formerly Twitter) that it is 'sad to see the police intervention' and stressed that it 'was necessary for the university to ensure safety' amid the protests.
